Dyslexia Tidbit
Next Steps
"If you or your child have been diagnosed with dyslexia, there are things you can do to help improve skills and manage challenges.
Parents should talk with their child’s health care professional and teacher about the challenges their child is facing. Ask about resources and strategies to help at home.
If your child gets special education services, it’s important to stay on top of how it’s going. One thing you can do is ask for regular progress monitoring updates that will show if the instruction is working.
Adults should consider disclosing their reading disability at work. By sharing this information with your employer, you may be able to get workplace accommodations so your dyslexia doesn’t keep you from doing your best on the job.
For some people, the challenges of dyslexia and its co-occurring conditions can lead to self-esteem issues, anxiety, and depression. Cognitive behavioral therapy can be helpful for both kids and adults."

A Note from the Principal
Ms. Heidi
Email invitations were sent toward the end of this past week inviting your child to be tutored after-school or on the weekend at no cost to you in either reading and/or math. The criteria for receiving this email invitation was based on MAP percentile scores in reading and/or math. Based on the grant, tutoring cannot be used for working on homework, projects, organizational skills, etc. It can only be used to remediate and strengthen skills.
We will work to place students with tutors (all the tutors will be Lakes and Bridges faculty) this coming week and hope to start the tutoring either this next week or the week of September 22.
If you received an invitation and are interested in the tutoring, please complete the form by Sunday, September 14.
If we have additional slots available, then we will invite another round of students. Only those students who meet the criteria based on MAP percentiles are eligible to receive the tutoring based on the grant.
A Note from the Front Office
Mrs. Kelly Disbrow
Supply and Tech Fees
Supply and Tech Fees are now past due. These are 2 separate fees. Please make sure you have paid both fees or if you would like to set up a payment plan please reach out to the front office.
Absences
If your child is absent from school you must provide a doctor's note or a parent note within 3 days of them returning to school. You can send in a paper copy to the front office, or you can email: [email protected].
A Note from the Testing Coordinator
Mrs. Wendye Henderson
CogAT/IA will occur from October 20-28, 2025. This test is only for 2nd grade students. The test will be given October 20-24, with make-up testing occurring on October 27 and 28.
Please have your child rested and present for each day of testing.
A Note from the Student Wellness Coordinator
Ms. Stephanie Phifer
It has been a fabulous first few weeks of Social Emotional Learning with our 1st-5th graders. We have been learning all about emotions and how to identify them; what they feel like in our own bodies and what they look like on others (facial expressions and body language).
Throughout September, we will continue learning how to label our feelings and begin working on coping strategies to ease BIG feelings.
As we often incorporate Art into our lessons, please send in any extra art supplies you have around the house. In the upcoming weeks, we will have art projects including bubbles, paints, and playdoh!
A Note from the Development Director

The Friday LEAP Program
Students and instructors were very excited to begin their LEAP clubs on September 5th! What's LEAP? LEAP stands for Learn, Experience, Apply, Participate. On Fridays, we have a shortened class schedule of 30 minutes each to accommodate an hour of LEAP club time and an hour of enrichment in the afternoons. During clubs, students have the opportunity to experience a related art, or extracurricular activity such as Music, Art, Karate, Cooking, Coding, Chess, Magic, etc..
Students select a club of their choice and will learn skills in that club throughout the semester. During the enrichment hour, students focus on academics and work with teachers to enhance their understanding of various topics learned throughout the week.
We're always looking for parent volunteers to help with our clubs. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping with a certain club. You can help one week, or help all of them! Students really enjoy when our parents volunteer during this time. Additionally, if you or someone you know has a special talent that you'd like to share with our school, please let us know!
We are also in need of the following items for some of our LEAP clubs - toilet paper and paper towel rolls, bottle caps, excess art supplies, cardboard boxes (mac n cheese boxes, small Amazon or small shipping boxes, cereal boxes - just nothing too big!).
If you have any questions regarding our LEAP program, don't hesitate to contact Ms. Phifer.
