Dyslexia Tidbit
Why is Early Intervention for Students with Dyslexia Critical?
Early intervention for students with dyslexia is critical because it leverages the high neuroplasticity of young brains, prevents widening achievement gaps, and protects a child's emotional well-being. Intervening in early grades (kindergarten through second grade) helps build foundational literacy skills before reading difficulties cause long-term harm.
Brain Plasticity and Skill Building
- Brain adaptability: Young children's brains form neural pathways quickly, making it easier to rewire and connect sounds to letters.
- Automatic reading: Early support programs help develop the automatic systems needed to recognize whole words smoothly.
- Core foundations: Explicit instruction in phonics, decoding, and phonemic awareness prevents small gaps from becoming massive hurdles later.
Preventing Academic and Emotional Decline
- Stopping the achievement gap: Waiting until a child fails makes later remediation much less effective, whereas first- and second-grade help yields twice the success of third-grade help.
- Lowering frustration: Fixing reading struggles early keeps students from avoiding schoolwork or feeling like they are not smart.
- Protecting confidence: Early success builds emotional resilience, reducing anxiety and keeping kids excited to learn with their peers.

- 12:00 - 1:30 Grades 1-5
- 1:30 - 3:00 Grades 6-8
August 5, 2026 - First Day of School (12:00 dismissal) - no lunch that day but please send in a snack for your child.
If you were not able to pick up Registration Packets last week, you are welcome to swing by on Monday, August 3, to get yours, or you can pick it up at Meet theTeacher, where a table will be available for you to sit and complete the paperwork.

By popular demand, Pizza Fridays are now EVERY Friday all school year long! No more trying to remember which week is pizza week!
This year, we're offering prepaid Pizza Passes for the entire school year through Givebacks.
- 1 Slice Pizza Pass: $82.50

Purchasing a Pizza Pass means your student's pizza is already paid for all year, making Friday lunches quick, easy, and one less thing to remember! These will only be available until August 12 at midnight!

Summer Book Project Reminder
All returning students in rising 6th-8th grade were required to complete a summer book project. These are due the first day of school and count as a major ELA grade. You can find more information here.
