                            Dyslexia Tidbit

Signs of Dyslexia in Grades K-2

Having trouble learning letter names and remembering the sounds they make
Often confusing letters that look similar (like b, d, p, and q) or sound similar (like f and v, b and p, or d and t)
Struggling to read familiar words (like cat), especially if there aren’t pictures
Substituting words when reading aloud, like saying house when the story says home
Having trouble separating the individual sounds in words and blending sounds to make a word
Having trouble remembering how words are spelled and applying spelling rules in writing

A Note from the Principal
Ms. Heidi Bishop

The safety of your child(ren) and the faculty/staff is of utmost importance in our school. In consultation with Nurse Dava, our school nurse, and keeping an eye on the high heat and humidity we experienced, particularly this past Friday, and potentially into next week, students will not be going outside for recess if the combined heat and humidity exceed a certain color (we are using the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature Chart), nor will they have PE outside based on the color.

We know this is an inconvenience for our students, but we also know a trip to the ER will be more of an inconvenience.

School Fees are now available and can be paid by credit card through MySchoolBucks or with cash or check at the school

Volunteer Opportunities

Office Help - organizing donated supplies, laminating, making copies
Uniform Closet - organizing donated uniforms

If you are interested in helping, please call or email the front office at 864-442-5580 or to [email protected] or 864-442-5580. You will need to fill out some paperwork.

School Excuses
Send all school excuses- parent and/or doctor - to:  [email protected].  Do not email them to the teacher. You can also send in a paper copy.  All absences must have an excuse, whether they saw a doctor or not. They must also be turned in within three days of the child returning to school.

A Note from the Reading Coach

Our PIE groups are getting started for the 26-27 school year, and our teachers are enjoying getting to know our students in a small-group setting. You should have received a letter from your child's PIE teacher explaining this class and the expectations. Please reach out to Mrs. Hudson with any questions or concerns regarding your child's PIE class. 

Our 8th grade students will have the opportunity to apply for our Literacy Leaders Club in the next few weeks. This is a club where the 8th grade students support our school in many different ways related to literacy. They will have the opportunity to assist with stations at family events, as well as becoming reading buddies with our younger elementary students throughout the school year. Please encourage your 8th grade child to apply for this club once the applications are available.

We want to send a HUGE thank you to everyone who came out for Dragon Kickoff Night!
We had SO much fun! It was wonderful getting to meet so many new faces, spend time with our Dragon families, and most of all, watch the kids simply enjoy being together. 
Thank you for continuing to show up, participate, and support our school and PTA. We couldn’t ask for a better way to kick off a brand-new year!
