Dyslexia Tidbit
State Testing
As our students with dyslexia in grades 3-8 enter state testing season here at LABCS and for students with dyslexia everywhere, it is important to remember this:
You should do your best with the state testing, but know that these kinds of tests are not designed for the way children with dyslexia think and learn. We know these next two weeks will potentially be filled with anxiety and angst. We want you to know that you are so much more than a number on a test. You are creative, intelligent, young men and women whose identity and success are not tied to a test.
You can be anything you want to be, pursue anything you want to, and be successful at it. Your success is determined by grit, perseverance, flexibility, the ability to bounce back when encountering failure, compassion, empathy, responsibility and accountability for actions, etc. - all traits that cannot be quantified by a number.

Thank you
- to the PTA for organizing a wonderful week, to include the food truck and the car wash;
- all the LABCS Families for making all of us feel special for your continued volunteering at the school;
- to Under the Carolina Moon for the yummy cookies and raffle coupons for the teachers; and
- to all our Amazing Guests, as well as Companies that helped to support our LEAP program this school year!
Our apologies in advance to anyone who might have been accidentally left off.

A Note from the Testing Coordinator
SC Ready - Elementary School, Grades 3-5 (Week of May 8)
-Monday, May 8 - ELA 1
-Tuesday, May 9 - ELA 2
-Wednesday, May 10 - Math
SC Ready - Middle School, Grades 6-8 (Week of May 15)
-Monday, May 15 - ELA 1
-Tuesday, May 16 - ELA 2
-Wednesday, May 17 - Math
SC PASS - Grades 4 and 6
-Thursday, May 18 - Science
All testing will begin at 8:30. It is imperative that you have your child at school on time on these dates. If they are late and miss the start of testing, you will be called to pick them up (this will count as an unexcused absence), and they will have to participate in make-up testing.
Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep during testing, and that they eat a healthy breakfast each morning of testing.
While we know that a test score does not define a child with dyslexia, please encourage your child to do their best.
Today you will glow when you show what you know!
A Note from the Gala Committee
Our 5th annual fundraising gala is a mere two weeks away! If you are planning to attend An Enchanted Evening but haven't yet purchased tickets, please do so as soon as possible. You may purchase tickets online at https://tinyurl.com/LABCS2023 or you may write a check made payable to Lakes and Bridges Charter School with "An Enchanted Evening" in the memo line.
8th Grade Semi-Formal
"A Night on the Town" is Saturday, May 20. A flyer was sent home with the 8th grade students this past week with an itinerary for the evening. Parents of 8th graders, look for an email at the start of this week giving more details on this event.
A Note from the Student Wellness Coordinator
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As there has been an increase in symptoms of anxiety and depression since COVID, I'd like to bring awareness to this topic. Please take the time to read the following handout. If you ever have any questions regarding how you can help your own child, please reach out to me ([email protected]).
