Summer Activities at Home to Prevent Learning Loss
Why Summer Matters
- Build confidence without school pressure
- Prevent loss of reading skills
- Encourage a love of learning
Keep Reading Fun (10–20 minutes a day!)
- Listen to audiobooks while following along in a book
- Read comics, graphic novels, or magazines
- Take turns reading (you read, then your child reads)
- Read real-life text like recipes, menus, or signs
Tip: Let your child choose what they read!
Make Writing Stress-Free
- Draw pictures and write simple labels or captions
- Keep a short summer journal
- Let your child tell a story while you write it
- Use speech-to-text tools
Tip: Focus on ideas, not spelling perfection
Learn Through Play & Movement
- Write words in chalk, sand, or shaving cream

A Note from the Principal
Ms. Heidi Bishop
Thank you to everyone for helping to make this such a successful and accomplished year with so many firsts. We loved having our 8th grade alumni, who are now seniors in high school, come back to the school on Friday, May 15, for a senior clap-out.
We are so proud of our 8th graders who just graduated on Friday. We were able to paint handprints this past week, and those boards will be hung in the front lobby over the summer. We know you will do amazing things in high school, and we cannot wait to hear from you. We hope you can come back and join us in the fall for High School Alumni Night. Once we have that date and time, we will post it.
For those students and faculty who are not returning, we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
If there are any changes to your child's placement for next year, please let the school know as soon as possible so we can offer slots to students on our wait list.

July 27-29, 2026 - 2026-2027 registration packets will be ready for pick up in the lobby of the school between 9:00 and 3:00 on Monday-Wednesday of that week.
July 29, 2026 - Registration packets due.
August 4, 2026 - Meet the Teacher (Drop In):
- 12:00 - 1:30 Grades 1-5
- 1:30 - 3:00 Grades 6-8
August 5, 2026 - First Day of School (12:00 dismissal)
A Note from the School Nurse

Any medications that were not picked up by the last day for students will be destroyed.
Summer Book Project
All returning students in rising 6th-8th grade are required to complete a summer book project. These are due the first day of school and count as a major ELA grade. Information will be sent home with your child for you to look over. You can also find more information here.
