Summer Activities at Home
Why Summer Matters
- Build confidence without school pressure
- Prevent loss of reading skills
- Encourage a love of learning
Keep Reading Fun (10–20 minutes a day!)
- Listen to audiobooks while following along in a book
- Read comics, graphic novels, or magazines
- Take turns reading (you read, then your child reads)
- Read real-life text like recipes, menus, or signs
Tip: Let your child choose what they read!
Make Writing Stress-Free
- Draw pictures and write simple labels or captions
- Keep a short summer journal
- Let your child tell a story while you write it
- Use speech-to-text tools
Tip: Focus on ideas, not spelling perfection
Learn Through Play & Movement
- Write words in chalk, sand, or shaving cream
- Build words with magnetic letters or Play-Doh
- Clap or tap out syllables
- Create a hopscotch spelling game
Tip: Movement helps memory
Everyday Learning Counts
- Cook together (reading recipes & measuring)
- Visit parks, museums, or the library
- Keep a nature journal
- Play board games that involve reading
Tip: Learning doesn’t have to feel like school
Build Confidence First
- Praise effort over accuracy
- Keep activities short and positive
- Take breaks when needed
- Celebrate small wins
Tip: Confidence grows when kids feel successful
Remember: A little each day goes a long way!

A Note from the Principal
Ms. Heidi Bishop
Due to the lack of funding available at this time from the state and/or federal programs, we will not be able to offer Summer Enrichment Camps like we have the last two summers, outside of the state-funded R2S (Read to Succeed) Summer Reading Camp. We apologize for this inconvenience, especially because we know how beneficial it was toward maintaining student achievement through the summer and not contributing to the "summer slide."
A Note from the Front Office
Mrs. Kelly Disbrow
End-of-Year Attendance
Please remember to send an excuse when your child is absent. This can be a parent note or a doctor's note. If your child has been absent more than 10 days the excuse must be from a doctor.
A Note from the School Nurse
Nurse Dava House
Students are not allowed to carry ANY medication (prescription or over-the-counter) on their person without physician permission, parent/guardian permission, and school permission to self-administer and self-monitor (SC Law S144). The ONLY medications that can be in a student’s possession (with proper authorization) are for asthma, diabetes, and severe allergic reactions. Other than those medications, all medications will be maintained in the health room. Medications that are state-approved for self-administering/monitoring are inhalers, insulin, and Epi-Pens for 4th graders and up. These medications must be authorized by the physician and the school administration/ nurse before being sent with the student.
Please help us keep all students safe by following the medication policy found in the handbook and copied below. If you have any questions, please reach out to Nurse Dava at [email protected] or 864-671-6265.
A Note from the Testing Coordinator
