The Science of Reading and The Reading League
"The Reading League’s online classes offer individuals and small teams the chance to choose their learning paths in evidence-aligned literacy instruction. These interactive, small-group learning sessions occur in a live virtual format, providing a unique opportunity to engage with our science of reading expert instructors and network with other participants."
The mission is to advance the awareness, understanding, and use of evidence-aligned reading instruction across South Carolina, by connecting all stakeholders in order to ensure equitable literacy instruction for all students.

Lunches and Dress Code
Please double-check each morning that your child has their lunch as they leave the house and then again before they exit the car. We keep a limited supply for emergencies, but we have had more requests lately due to students leaving their lunches at home or in the car.
Also, please make sure your child is in the correct dress code as well (this is in the Student and Parent Handbook) before leaving the house. We have students who are arriving at school out of dress code. Students out of dress code will be required to visit the Uniform Closet and will be unable to participate in Dress Down Friday that week.
Lost and Found
We have a growing Lost and Found collection. Please feel free to stop by the school and see if any of the items belong to your student.
A Note from the Front Office
Please remember to pack silverware for your child's lunch. Please make sure your child has a water bottle and a snack at school.
A Note from the School Nurse
As spring has arrived, I have seen an increase in falls and injuries with students running in Crocs at recess. While I understand the comfort and ease of putting on Crocs in the morning, as well as their popularity, we encourage students to wear shoes that offer support and stability when running and playing. If they want to wear Crocs to school, please make sure they have tennis shoes to change into for recess. Tennis shoes are required for PE.
A Note from the PTA
Teacher Appreciation Week will be May 5-9, and PTA needs your help planning and orchestrating this week! The more help we have, the better week we can create for our amazing staff. And with more hands, there’s less work for everyone! Let’s work together to make it unforgettable!
We need your help to make teacher appreciation successful. Please sign-up below. Thank you!

State Testing Technology Policy
At the April 7, 2025 Board Meeting, the LABCS Board of Directors approved an additional technology policy for state testing.
LABCS Board Approved SC State Testing Technology Policy for SCReady and SCPass
The following policy is in effect for SC state testing.
Students:
- If a phone or smart watch is not turned in during morning homeroom (this is school policy), it is an automatic suspension.
- If cheating occurs with a phone or smart watch, it is an automatic 10-day suspension and could result in the recommendation for possible expulsion.
