Dyslexia Tidbit
Women's History Month
In honor of Women's History Month, each week, we will highlight women who have publicly shared that they are dyslexic or had significant reading difficulties, often crediting those experiences with shaping their success.
Cher, the iconic singer and actress, has spoken openly about having dyslexia and dyscalculia, which caused significant reading, writing, and math challenges during her school years. Undiagnosed until she was 30, she struggled with schoolwork, leading her to drop out at age 16. She adapted by learning through listening, using visual tools, and reading scripts slowly, ultimately building a successful career despite these learning differences.
Keira Knightley was diagnosed with dyslexia at age six, overcoming severe reading and writing difficulties through her passion for acting. Supported by her mother, she used reading scripts as motivation to improve her skills. Knightley now utilizes " Dyslexic Thinking" by listening to recordings of scripts and drawing to memorize lines.
Salma Hayek has spoken openly about living with dyslexia, which was diagnosed during her teenage years. Despite facing reading difficulties and academic challenges early on, she has utilized her strong memory and unique, slower, and methodical approach to reading scripts to build a successful career as an actress, director, and producer.
Jennifer Aniston revealed in 2015 that she was diagnosed with dyslexia in her early 20s, a discovery that explained her childhood struggles with reading, comprehension, and low self-esteem. Believing she "wasn't smart" for years, the diagnosis provided relief and context, helping her realize her difficulties were a learning disability, not a lack of intelligence.

Snacks, Water, Breakfast, and Soft Drinks
Please make sure you send in snacks and a water bottle with your child every day. If a student forgets a water bottle, they will need to use the water fountains.
Just a reminder that breakfast needs to be eaten before students get out of the car unless it is Chick-fil-A breakfast day.
At no time are soft drinks (even non-caffeinated soft drinks) or caffeinated drinks allowed. Students will be asked to pour them out. Only water bottles are allowed in the building - no fast food drink cups will be allowed (even if they only have water in it) since the lids can come off easily or spill if tipped.
