Dyslexia Tidbit
Women's History Month
In honor of Women's History Month, each week, we will highlight women who have publicly shared that they are dyslexic or had significant reading difficulties, often crediting those experiences with shaping their success.
Sally Gardner: An award-winning British children's author and illustrator who views her dyslexia as a unique asset.
Dr. Carol Greider: A molecular biologist who discovered telomerase, an enzyme critical to aging and cancer research. She won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Ann Bancroft: The first woman to cross the ice to both the North and South Poles. She credits her dyslexia with fostering the determination needed for her expeditions
Holly Willoughby: Television presenter, model and clothing designer Holly Willoughby is proud to be dyslexic. She demonstrates that despite the struggles of dyslexia, you can still be a professional in your field with application and hard work.

A Note from the Principal
Ms. Heidi Bishop
Just a few reminders about the dress code and food.
Dress Code Reminders
Please revisit the following dress code policies with your children (pp. 33-36 from the Student and Parent Handbook):
Here are the main points to remember:
- NO biking shorts or running shorts are to be worn on any day, to include Friday Dress Down Days
- ONLY solid-colored hoodies and sweatshirts, except on Fridays
- NO sweatpants allowed except for Friday Dress Down Days
- NO leggings on any day unless under a skirt, skort, or dress
Snacks, Water, Breakfast, Lunch, and Soft Drinks Please send in snacks, lunch, and a water bottle with your child every day. If a student forgets a water bottle, they will need to use the water fountains.
At no time are soft drinks (even non-caffeinated soft drinks) or caffeinated drinks allowed. Students will be asked to pour them out. Only water bottles are allowed in the building - no fast food drink cups will be allowed (even if they only have water in them) since the lids can come off easily or spill if tipped.
Utensils
Please send in utensils (forks, spoons, etc.) in your child's lunch.
A Note from the Front Office
Mrs. Kelly Disbrow
School Climate Surveys due April 17, 2026
The South Carolina Department of Education partners with the Education Oversight Committee to deliver a parent survey. The responses to this survey help school and district leaders understand how parents feel about the school. A link to this survey is being sent to the parents or guardians of every student in South Carolina. If you have multiple children, you might get several links. We are only asking you to complete one survey for each school your children attend. You are permitted to complete one survey for each of your children if you want, but only one survey for each school is needed.
You will receive a letter with a QR code specific for your student. Please complete the survey by April 17th.
Absences
If your child is absent from school, you must provide a doctor's note or a parent note within 3 days of returning to school. You can send in a paper copy to the front office or email it to [email protected].
