YMCA Mentor Program and Collaboration with LABCS
We are excited to announce a partnership with the YMCA and their Mentor program. This wonderful program matches students (mentees) with adults (mentors) in the community. The mentors meet weekly with the mentee at the school. This program provides students with extra support and a positive relationship, so they can achieve their potential!
If you are interested in having your child be a part of the Y Mentor program, please email [email protected]. If you are interested in becoming a Y Mentor, you can fill out the application online.

Picture Day
Picture Day will be held on Tuesday, October 21. For more information, click here.
Absences
If your child is absent from school, you must provide a doctor's note or a parent note within 3 days of returning to school. You can send in a paper copy to the front office, or you can email: [email protected].
Lost and Found
We are beginning to get a large collection of items in our Lost and Found cabinet - clothes, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc. If your child is missing any items, please swing by the school to check the cabinet. All items unclaimed by December 19, the last day before Holiday Break begins, will be donated to the Dream Center.
A Note from the Testing Coordinator
Mrs. Wendye Henderson
CogAT/IA will occur from October 20-28, 2025. This test is only for 2nd grade students. The test will be given October 20-24, with make-up testing occurring on October 27 and 28.
A Note from the Reading Coach
Mrs. Jessica Hudson
We would like to welcome ten new Literacy Leaders for the 2025-2026 school year! These 8th grade students completed applications to work with our school leaders and younger students to help advocate and support a love of reading and writing at LABCS. Their first task will be starting Book Buddies with our 1st and 2nd grade students. Each week, they will work with a buddy to listen and support these students as they read decodable books on their grade level. This is a great leadership opportunity for our 8th graders. Be sure to ask your 1st, 2nd, or 8th grade child about our Book Buddies program.
A Note from the Student Wellness Coordinator
Ms. Stephanie Phifer
Did you know that October is also Bullying Prevention Month? As part of the national movement to prevent bullying, our elementary classes have been learning the definition of bullying and ways to stop and prevent it from happening in our school setting. Our upper elementary school students are especially focusing on cyberbullying and digital etiquette.
Students are continuing to practice and learn new strategies for emotion regulation. If you didn't have a chance to come to our Open House and collect some materials, check your child's folder. SEL work is often sent home each week.
If you have any questions, or social/emotional concerns for your child, please reach out to Stephanie Phifer at [email protected].
